Portrait and Animal Art Work In Progress

Welcome to my animal art and portrait progress pages

Here you will find a selection of completed portraits in pencil during their creation in various stages on display. Here you are able to see the original reference photographs and the finished pencil portraits from photos of pets and people to see a good likeness is achieved. These work in progress reports enable clients to make suggestions, add comments and ensure their finished portraits in pencil are just as they would like them. Also visitors to my website can see how my work is undertaken and the pencil techniques I use to create portraits in pencil. These pages are updated most frequently to ensure all stages are always available to view for visitors and clients alike.

Roli the horse...

Roli framed

Roli the horse was created with a reference from www.bigtimemedia.co.uk. His portrait was created using Derwent Artists pencils on 300gsm cartridge paper. The backround was added using charcoal pencils to keep the edges clean and then black pastel to fill in the large surrounding area.

Willow the german shepherd in graphite...

Willow's portrait was completed in Mars Lumograph pencils, these pencils can be a little expensive but are well worth every penny.
As you can image, graphite pencils do smudge more than colured ones and I worked from right to left to prevent any smudging as I am left handed.

Bodie the springer spaniel...

Bodie's portrait was created on drafting film using a mixture of Derwent Coloursoft and Artists pencils.

Ace the horse...

Ace was a local commission and I was able to meet him and take my own photos. I was able to see Ace in detail and this helped with his many freckles as they looked grey in the image however up close and personal they were actually slightly brown.

Bay Horse...

This horse portrait was created using a wonderful image from Wetcanvas. I used Derwent Coloursoft and Prismacolor pencils.
